A new welding technology is introduced: for operations in North America the welding machine K 355 APT is equipped with Super Stretch an additional pulling device.

The Super C.A.T. a continuous action levelling, lining and tamping machine for track and switches with integrated ballast profiling units is presented at the REMSA in Toronto, Canada.

The research and testing department develops the ALC automatic guiding computer to control the recording systems on tamping machines.

1st May 1988: world speed record by Intercity Experimental ICE at 406.9 km/h on the new line Wurzburg-Fulda. Track work carried out primarily using Plasser & Theurer machines.

Perfection and cost-efficiency when working on switches, crossings and plain track using the Unimat 08-275 3S with synchronous 3-rail lift.

February 26th 1981: record-breaking run of an SNCF TGV train at 380 km/h. The line was built by contractors using Plasser & Theurer track laying machines (system Framafer) and prepared for the test run using:
