New welding robot with pick-up attachment allowing a manoeuvrability of 360 degrees, for the manufacture of bogies.

The Plasser & Theurer welding shop has been equipped with a new robot handling automat specially for the welding work on the frame of the bogies. The pick-up attachment for the work piece allows a manoeuvrability of 360 degrees.

Plasser & Theurer now has the most up-to-date generation of plant equipment. Even the most complex connections can be produced in one operation with equally high quality throughout. Leading in this production plant is also the know-how of the welding experts in respect of the adjustment and programming of the automatic machine. Not only with regard to the welding accuracy, also the exact dosage of the heat applied to achieve the highest bonding quality with the least material distortion. The tight limits imposed by the procedure directives pose an additional challenge for the staff.

The finished connections are checked, for example, by ultrasound testing or magnetic particle examination. Welding quality assurance is the duty of the quality assurance office independent of manufacture. The requirements expected of the welding seams and the accuracy to gauge comply with the high manufacturing norms of German Federal Railway (DB AG).
